EWGA SEA Match Play

Interested in Trying Match Play?

Match Play is a format where, instead of  track of each of your strokes for the round, you keep track of the holes that you win or lose.  The team who wins the most holes, wins the match!  Many players find Match Play to be a fun way to compete since one “blow-up hole” doesn’t mean you’re out of the match.

1.  Two person teams will be placed in a double elimination brackets.  So you are guaranteed 2 matches and it may be possible to lose a match and still win the tournament!

2.  Once registration is over we will send out your bracket information and specific procedures for setting up your matches and for reporting results of the matches.

3.  The first round will need to be completed by May 31st, the second round by June 30th. Each round will be one month in duration, length of bracket depends on how many teams sign up.

Cost is $10 per person ($20 per team) into a prize fund and providing your handicaps and noting who your partner is.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never played match play.  Is that ok?
Yes!  This is a great opportunity to become familiar with the format.

How many matches will I get to play?
You are guaranteed at least two matches, and will continue to play as long as you have not lost twice.

Who will I play against?
Initial pairings for Round One will be based on handicaps.  Your first opponent will be determined by the player whose handicap is closest to yours within your flight.  For the remaining rounds, your opponent is determined based on the winners and losers of the other matches.

Where will matches be played?

Before Round One and after each subsequent round, you’ll be notified of pairings for the upcoming matches.  Your team is responsible for contacting your opponents for each round and arranging a tee time on a course that is acceptable to both players.

What if I win my match?
Yay you!  You get to move on to the next round and play again. Place in the top three and you’ll win a prize!

What if I lose my first match?
It’s not over!  You still get the chance to play in the consolation bracket for your flight.

What if my opponent and I can’t find a time to play before the deadline for the round?
It’s vital that all players complete their matches during the allotted time in order for the competition to move forward.  If you absolutely cannot find a mutually agreeable time to play your match, one team may need to forfeit.  Forfeiture can be decided by either a coin flip or rock paper scissors. The teams can decide. If a course to play cannot be decided by mutual agreement the match play chairwoman will decide which course by random selection of one of the our 18 hole league courses.
