June President’s Corner

by Dee Johnson, Seattle Chapter President

I know many of you have young children or grandchildren. Today, I spent some time with my five-year-old granddaughter showing her how to putt. Once she could walk, one of her first gifts from my husband and me was a little electric golf cart. So my granddaughter knows that golf is a passion for me. (Just because it’s a passion doesn’t mean I’m a good golfer, but I sure enjoy hitting that little white ball around.) Anyway, as I spent time with her I realized that my passion for golf has grown as I became more involved with EWGA. I hope that when my five-year-old granddaughter is eligible to become a member, EWGA will still be such a wonderful organization for women. She informed today that she, too, could become president some day and beat me in golf. I look forward to that day!

I also realize how time is flying by. Golf season is in full swing and I’m already halfway through my presidency. It seems like our board was just working on our goals for 2010, and we are already talking about the next board election. We are still working hard on achieving our membership goals of 303 individual memberships, one corporate membership, and five student memberships. In case you don’t know, there is a contest each year from Headquarters for our member-gets-a-member drive. You can win some fabulous prizes, including Nike Golf prizes and free EWGA memberships. The more members you recruit, the greater your chance to win, but it just takes one new member for you to be eligible. I may have glossed over this at the Tee-Off, but it is truly very admirable and greatly appreciated by our organization when we have members of our chapter that win this honor. Our members like what we offer and feel we are a good value. I’m challenging all of you to not only reach out to women to become a part of our group, but also consider stepping up to volunteer in some capacity, whether it be spotter at the Chapter Championship, dropping off new member brochures at your place of employment, or filling a Board position that will be available this coming year.

Happy Golfing!
Dee
