2010 is the 15th Anniversary of the EWGA Championship. As a member of EWGA, you have the opportunity to participate in the largest female amateur competition in the world. The EWGA championship starts with the local Chapter Championship, progresses to a Regional (Northwest) Semi-finals, and then to the 2010 National Championship.
This year, the Seattle EWGA Chapter Championship, considered the Chapter’s Premier Event, will be held on July 31 at the Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Washington. The Pacific Northwest Regional Semi-Finals will be held at the Widgi Creek Golf Club in Bend, Oregon on August 28, and the National Championship Finals will be held at the Geneva National Golf Club in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, on October 1-2.
The Championship program gives you an opportunity to participate in competitive golf. You will be paired with and compete against women who are in the same handicap range as you are. It gives you the opportunity to become more familiar with the rules of golf. You’ll play really great golf courses, and share the experience with women who share your passion for the game.
Formats of the Game
There are two different competitive formats: Individual Stroke Play Competition and Team Scramble Competition. You select the format that best fits your game, personality and skill level.
Stroke play competitors play in one of five flights at the Chapter Championship qualifying event based on their USGA Handicap Index. The handicap system, available as part of your EWGA membership, qualifies for this Index.
Scramble Teams consist of four (4) women who meet the eligibility requirements to play in the EWGA championship. The team “handicap factor” is established based on the USGA Handicap Index of all four players.
To Qualify to Play
EWGA members must:
- Follow the registration guidelines distributed by the Seattle Chapter
- Be a female, EWGA member in good standing
- Have a verifiable USGA Handicap Index and have an equivalent of two 18 hole scores posted to your handicap record in the current year
- Be an amateur golfer as defined by USGA Rules of Amateur Status
How to Advance to the Next Level
- The Low Gross and Low Net Champions in each flight are eligible to advance. The first place Team Scramble Competition winners are eligible to advance.
- Registration information for the Semi-Final Championship will be provided at the Chapter Championship event to all competitors eligible to advance.
Deadlines
The deadline for registering for the Seattle Chapter Championship is July 20, 2010. We will need your Handicap as of July 15, 2010. The Fee for the tournament is $150.00. The official registration packets will be sent out via mail and email the week of June 1. Registration forms are also available on the EWGA Seattle website.
