Establishing a Handicap

By Cheri Straka, Handicap Chair

Are you looking to establish a handicap this summer with EWGA Seattle? The good news is the Seattle Chapter offers a couple of options for establishing and managing your handicap as described below.

As part of your annual membership fee, you are entitled to use the Golf Life Management System (GLMS) to record your rounds of golf to manage your handicap at no charge. This system is accessible through the web, and enables you to not only track your score, but you can keep track of other golf statistics that can be analyzed to determine where you might want to improve your game. The GLMS has recently been upgraded so that it will communicate with EWGA's new member database. The upgrade is complete and it is now time to move into the new version of GLMS which is called GN21.

You can access the GN21 system using the following steps:
- Click on MEMBER LOGIN from EWGA.com
- Login with your email address & password
- Click on HANDICAP* from the left-hand navigation bar

*This link will automatically take you to your GN21 account

Another option for recording your handicap is with the GHIN System. If you think that you will be playing some tournaments over the summer outside of EWGA, you should opt for this handicap system. Your GHIN # will be associated with the EWGA Seattle Chapter through the Washington State Golf Association. If you don’t have a GHIN number, a new number will be assigned at the time you are added to the system. If you currently have a GHIN handicap # but are associated with a local golf course (i.e. The Golf Course at Redmond Ridge), Cheri can renew your GHIN membership and add you to the EWGA Seattle Chapter as long as you provide your previous GHIN number. A small fee of $30 is required to set you up or renew your GHIN Handicap #. To sign up for the GHIN handicap system, you will need to mail a check for $30 to Cheri Straka, 14343 231st Ct. NE, Woodinville, WA 98077. You should complete a GHIN Handicap form which is located on the EWGA website. Please fill out the form and mail your check to Cheri as soon as possible. Please make sure to provide your name, current address, city, state, zip, and your current e-mail address, as well as your GHIN # if you have established your handicap with GHIN.

Cheri will activate you when she receives your check for payment and will e-mail you to confirm that you’ve been activated. Cheri currently has access to managing the GHIN handicaps, so don’t delay, send in your check today. One benefit of the GHIN system is that you can update your golf scores at most golf courses on the day you play versus having to wait to update your score at home over the web.

Cheri will have a table at the Tee Off and will be taking handicap applications and payments to get you signed up.

Both systems produce the same handicap results, so the choice is yours. Take advantage of this benefit with EWGA and start tracking your golf scores either with the free GN21 system, or with GHIN. If you have any questions, please e-mail Cheri Straka at: handicap@ewgaseattle.org.
