By Dee Sweeney, Fairway Friends Manager
Remember when you first learned to golf? Wouldn’t it have been nice to have had a girlfriend to show you the ropes and answer questions you might have otherwise been too embarrassed to ask? Well, now is your chance to either help someone or ask for help yourself. You can sign up as a Mentor or Mentee with EWGA’s “Fairway Friends” program and reap the benefits. Last year the Seattle Chapter received an award for the highest percentage of mentors paired with mentees. Not only will you get a new “golf girlfriend”, but you will also receive the following benefits:
Mentors:
- Satisfaction and reward of helping a new golfer get hooked on this game we all love!
- Receive a ball marker and divot tool from program sponsor, Be the Ball 4U.
- Receive a discount on Fairway Friends logoed items from Be the Ball 4U.
- Chance to be randomly selected to win a gift from Be the Ball 4U for completing the program.
Mentees:
- Opportunity to learn from an experienced golfer on the golf course, and get more involved in the EWGA.
- Opportunity to have a “buddy” to ask questions throughout the year.
- Receive an accessories pouch from program sponsor, Be the Ball 4U.
- Receive a discount on Fairway Friends logoed items from Be the Ball 4U.
- Chance to be randomly selected to win a gift from Be the Ball 4U for completing the program.
In the Fairway Friends program, experienced golfers team up with newer golfers to help them feel more comfortable on the golf course. Fairway Friends is what EWGA is all about – helping women enter the game of golf in a fun and supportive environment!
The Fairway Friends mentoring program offers an opportunity for a new golfer to have a “golfing buddy” to help make that transition from instruction to playing golf. This program is open to all EWGA members, provided you’ve been through a basic level of golf instruction.
So if you are an experienced golfer who knows how to get around the golf course effectively (regardless of your golfing skill) and you have an understanding of the basic rules (such as where to tee off, how to mark a ball, etc.) and you are comfortable with pace-of-play and etiquette on the golf course – we need you! You will become a part of helping a new golfer find the fun and enjoyment that golf and EWGA has brought to you! A mentor is responsible for helping a new golfer get comfortable on the course and learn about basic rules, etiquette, pace-of-play and how to participate in EWGA! You can devote as little or as much time as you want taking a new golfer out on the course and just being available for her questions and concerns.
So sign up today! It’s free to become a Mentee or Mentor! We can either pair you with a Mentor or Mentee OR if you already have someone in mind just sign up as a pair together. Please email me at mentor@ewgaseattle.org and I will help get you started. For more information, stop by our Education table at the Tee Off Brunch on April 3 or you can also go online to read more about the program.
We are in the process of scheduling various events throughout the season especially for the Fairway Friends program, so stay tuned.
