August President’s Corner: A Son Rediscovers Golf
|

By Bonnie Lindner, Seattle Chapter President
My 25-year old son has moved home...
That might make some parents cringe with fear, but I have to say that I am
enjoying every minute of it. He had an opportunity for a job transfer back to
his hometown and reclaim his childhood bedroom (if you have ever converted your
child’s room to a guestroom after they move out, you know exactly what I mean).
He is an adult now, has served in Iraq, and has so much common sense that we
spend hours just talking about any and everything.
What has been fun is to reintroduce him to the game of golf. He played golf
when he was in junior high (golf camp, lessons, etc.) but probably wasn’t all
that interested and had not played for about 10 years. Because Cliff and I both
like to play, we started planning weekend golf outings that included him and
also got us out there more. After only five or six times out on the course, he
is playing a darn good game and I know he will improve each time.
So why am I telling you all of this? As members of the EWGA, I hope you will
look for any opportunity to encourage family, friends, and co-workers to take
up the game or get back in to it—at least they will then understand why we are
out there whacking at the little white round thing.
Right now I am sitting out on my deck on a beautiful afternoon and realize that
there is still a lot of summer left—get out there and enjoy every minute!
