Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam are among the top LPGA players to commit to
The Safeway Classic Presented by Pepsi. The event will take place August 22-24
at Columbia-Edgewater and Riverside Country Club in Portland.
Along with Ochoa, who won the event in 2007 and Sorenstam, who won back-to-back
Safeway Classic titles in 2002 and 2003, the tournament expects fan favorites
Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Natalie Gulbis, and Morgan Pressel.
Also planning to visit Portland are LPGA Tour and World Golf Hall of Fame
member Karrie Webb and Yani Tseng, the 19 year-old rookie from Taiwan who
became the second-youngest player to ever win an LPGA major earlier this year.
ESPN2 will telecast two hours of play all three days (Friday-Sunday) of the
54-hole tournament.

This year marks the 37th edition of the tournament, which will move to Pumpkin
Ridge in 2009.
Originally called the Portland Classic, the event has contributed more than $12
million to Portland-area children's charities since its inception in 1972 –
including more than $9 million during the past 12 years with Safeway serving as
title sponsor. All proceeds are donated on behalf of the Safeway Foundation.
