EWGA Championship Overview

The EWGA Championship puts your game to the test and creates an opportunity for personal growth in a competitive yet fun environment. Members of all skill levels with an official USGA handicap index are encouraged to participate.

The Three Levels of the EWGA Championship

Seattle Chapter Championship

An 18-hole event, the Seattle Chapter Championship is held in July at a golf course in the Puget Sound region. Late in the Spring, all Seattle Chapter members are mailed extensive information about the Championship including entry requirements, and all necessary registration forms. Scramble team and individual stroke play winners from each flight will move on to play in the Pacific Northwest Section Semi-finals in August.

This year's Championship will be held on July 31 at the Gold Mountain Golf Club, Olympic Course, in Bremerton, Washington. A banquet and awards ceremony will follow play.

Volunteer opportunities are available. Please contact Tricia Deering, Championship Director, at championship@ewgaseattle.org if you want to be on the planning committee or help out on the day of the event. Donna Becker, Sponsorship Chair, can be contacted at sponsorship@ewgaseattle.org if you are interested in becoming a sponsor.

Pacific Northwest District Semi-Finals

The Pacific Northwest Championship serves as our semi-final event for the EWGA Championship. The event location changes from year-to-year and is held at quality venues throughout the Northwest region. This is also an 18-hole event, with Scramble Team and Individual Stroke Play winners moving on to the EWGA Championship Finals in October.

In 2010, the Pacific Northwest District Semi-Final will be held on August 28 at Widgi Creek Golf Club, in Bend, Oregon. While this is only an 18-hole event, many members choose to make a weekend of it, arriving early for a practice round or to play one of the other fine courses in the area. An awards banquet follows play.

Association Championship Finals

The Championship Final is a 36-hole culmination to the EWGA Championship. The finals are generally held in October at a quality golf resort in the United States. As all of the Sectional winners come together for this premiere event, friendships are formed, social activities are enjoyed, and challenging golf awaits all participants.

In 2010, the EWGA Championship Finals will be held October 1-2 at the Geneva National Golf Club in Lake Geneva, WI.

Don’t miss your opportunity to take part in this series, by starting at the Chapter Championship level. The experience will certainly prove to be an exciting and enjoyable one. We invite you to join us!

Formats

The Championship, by design, offers two different competitive formats: Stroke Play and Team Scramble Competition. You select the competitive format that best fits your game, personality and skill level.

Stroke Play Competition

Players are grouped into one of five flights at each level of Championship competition based on their official Handicap Index. Both Low Gross and Low Net winners in each flight will advance to the next level of competition. Players are flighted as they enter the tournament based on their USGA Handicap Index. You compete only against players of your same skill level in your flight. The 2010 flights are as follows:

  • Championship Flight    0.0. - 12.0
  • First Flight                  12.1 - 19.0
  • Second Flight              19.1 - 25.0
  • Third Flight                 25.1 - 32.0
  • Fourth Flight               32.1 - 40.4

Team Scramble Competition

If teamwork and teambuilding are your strengths, this may be the format for you. This format consists of a four (4) woman team, comprised of your Chapter friends and fellow golfers, who meet the eligibility requirements to play in the scramble format. Scramble play is a great deal of fun, so start forming your team early! The Scramble handicaps for 2010 are as follows:

Team Member HandicapComputation Factor
12.0 or Less+2
12.1 – 19.0+1
19.1 – 25.00
25.1 – 32.0-1
32.1 or Higher-2

Assign the appropriate Computation Factor to each team member's individual Handicap Index. Add the four Computation Factors together to determine the scramble Team Handicap. The total Team Handicap must not be more than +2 or less than –5. Teams with Team Handicaps that fall outside the total team handicap range will not be eligible to compete. Effective 2010, only one team member may have a USGA Handicap of 12.0 or lower at the Chapter level.
